Artist Profile & Image Library - Giampiero Malgioglio (Gmal)
Giampiero Malgioglio, professional name Gmal, was born in Rome in 1967. From an early age he devoted himself to drawing and painting, inspired by Roman atmospheres and encouraged by his mother’s artist sister.
He attended various Roman artists’ studios where he was convinced to take part in his first group exhibitions, an experience which furthered his dedication to painting.
He devotes a lot of time to reading and researching works by and about artists such as: Attardi, Dorazio,and Afro; Afro in particular has been a major influence and one of the main reasons he stopped painting figurative works at the end of 90s, since then his research is based on material masses and colour harmony.
His first personal exhibition at the “Circolo della Stampa” in Catania”, was promoted and supervised by Vittorio Pizzolato the theatre scriptwriter, who is fond of many forms of art and Gmal paintings in particular.
In 2000 he took part in a group exhibition in Rome at the “Museo Garibaldino” at Mentana and other group exhibitions followed till 2003, when the renowned art gallery “Al Cinque” in Rome presented him the opportunity of a personal exhibition, and where he still exhibits today.
In 2004 he was invited to Caracas to participate in a collective exhibition at the “Fundacion Museo de Arte Metropolitano.”and 2006 sees him in Switzerland as the protagonist in different artistic movements. His personal exhibitions are shown at the gallery “La Fontane du Rhone” In Geneva and at the gallery “ Grancy Iam InterArtMania” in Lausanne.
Under invitation he also has an exhibition within the Ambassador Hotel in Bern.
Recently he has boosted his artistic profile by entering into an artistic and business relationship with the art dealer Pierre Courvoisier, ensuring much publicity and sell out shows.
Gmal lives and works in Rome.
